How the #1 was decided
The questions we asked, and the ones we deliberately ignored.
Step one: a long list of contenders
We began with well-known resorts around the world that contain a casino and also function as full hotels, with real rooms, public spaces and a setting worth describing. Places where the bedrooms are an afterthought to the gaming floor were dropped straight away.
Step two: questions about the stay
- Setting. Does the location add something, whether water, gardens, a skyline or a walkable neighbourhood?
- Building. Is the architecture or interior design memorable in its own right?
- Rooms. Are they comfortable, and is there a view worth asking for?
- Things to do. Can a guest fill a day without touching the tables?
- Getting around. How much can be reached on foot?
Step three: one winner, argued in words
Bellagio came out ahead because its lake, fountains, Conservatory and lobby ceiling give a stay something to remember even if you never set foot near a slot machine, and because its central position makes walking practical. We explain that verdict in sentences. There is no formula, no numerical grade and no averaged opinion behind it.
What we ignored
The size of the casino, table limits, loyalty tiers and any promotional offer played no part. Neither did money: the resort has no relationship with us, and no affiliate link sits anywhere on the site.
When we revisit
We look at the choice again whenever something material changes, such as a major renovation or the closure of a signature attraction. Corrections from readers are welcome through the contact page.
